Is your pet’s parasite protection up to date?

Summer is right around the corner and with the warmer weather, we tend to see more parasites.

Pets should be treated regularly for heartworm, intestinal worms, fleas and ticks. There are lots of formulations available including spot on treatments and oral tablets; just be sure to check how often your pet should be treated with your preferred product! Ticks hadn’t traditionally been a problem in Melbourne, but there were cases of tick paralysis seen last summer in pets that hadn’t been travelling.

Keeping up to date with parasite prevention is not only important for your pets’ health, but for your health too. Some parasites are zoonotic which means they can be transferred from our pets to us. One example is an intestinal worm called roundworm, where infestations can cause gastrointestinal upset or nutritional imbalance.

Through soil testing, recent studies have shown that there is a much higher worm burden in the environment, making our pets more vulnerable to these parasites.Prevention is the best way to avoid these nasty critters that can affect your beloved pets.

Please call our clinic to have a chat to one of our friendly staff to ensure that your pet is on the best possible parasite prevention and is ready for summer!
